After completing the recent Zero to Cloud in 1 Day Training workshop in Newcastle, I asked Stephen Hackers who is a Director and Infrastructure Specialist with Hotwired IT Solutions if I could ask him a few questions.

Q: Who are you and what is your background?

I have an IT Pro back ground with over 10 years experience in designing, implementing and supporting solutions using Microsoft, VMware, Citrix and Symantec core products. I’ve often integrated with other 3rd parties to provide solutions for security, disaster recovery, and CRM / telephony.

Q: Why do you think the cloud is important to your future business?

As technologies advance and systems require larger scale systems on demand, while maintaining high availability & at a lower cost. Virtualisation of systems and Cloud is important to meet these everyday high demands for faster and more advanced systems. There are many variations of Cloud and its often miss interrupted as an indestructible 100% bullet proof way forward. Azure is a good example of a real cloud which can meet high demand without the vulnerabilities of security & performance issues other smaller scale cloud solutions might offer. The concept of a cloud is removing some or all of the elements of hosting your own data centre solution on premise and moving the risk to another provider to provide a highly available and easily scalable system.

Q: What attracted you to the Zero to Cloud in 1 Day Training?

From a business view, everyday spent on training is a cost x2. 1) each day is a non-chargeable to the customer and 2) each training day has a cost. The option of a 1 day, fast pace and intensive training day in an area I was looking to take on, led by an expert who actually uses the technology in the real world. Really! Some might say this sounds almost too good to be true. But this was also the main reason I was interest in Zero to Cloud in 1 day training over a commercial run of the mill training course spread out over a 5 day plan and at a much slower pace (some might say a bit of a jolly / relaxing week).

Q: Which features of Azure do you want to work with the most?

Hosting, Backups, Active directory integration, ADFS, Performance, Availability & Cost
